Ultrasonography & Specialist Consultations

We prioritize non-invasive diagnostics, offering in-house ultrasound and telemedicine.

Our team here at Downtown Animal Hospital believes that it’s important to offer your pet minimally invasive and more economical ways of seeing inside your pet, so that we don’t have to use surgery as a diagnostic tool. We are proud to have an in-house ultrasound, and we consult with specialists so that your pet can receive highly accurate and timely diagnostics. Through telemedicine, we are able to transmit x-rays and ultrasound images to specialists who are world-renowned. Your pet will have access to the best veterinary minds in the world, and a report can be sent to us within 20 minutes of your pet’s data reaching the specialist.

What is ultrasonography?

Ultrasonography allows for the real time visualization of various internal structures and biological processes. Unlike with X-rays, ultrasound imaging allows us to see the tissue architecture within your pet’s organs. We can visualize the heart’s pumping process, and make accurate measurements of various structures within your pet’s body. It is also an incredible way to obtain biopsy samples for skin growths or tumours.

Why does my cat/dog/pet need an ultrasonography?

Typically, an ultrasonography is conducted so that our team can get a closer look or a more detailed analysis of your pet’s kidneys, liver, heart, intestinal tract, lymph nodes, and other internal organs. They help veterinarians diagnose underlying conditions and are usually the first step in determining the treatment plan that will lead your pet to better health and recovery.
